The Philippines – Ateneo Blue Eagles are scheduled for a head-to-head game against the team Iran at 3:00 P.M. on July 22, 2018 in Xinzhuang Gymnasium, Taiwan.
The Philippines-Ateneo Blue Eagles have shown in the 40th William Jones Cup that they are capable on beating other nation’s team A basketball squad.
After beating the Indonesian men’s basketball squad few days ago, they have followed it up with another one in the expense of the host nation’s the Chinese Taipei Blue, 77-76.
With 3.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Thirdy Ravena was called for a reach-in foul as he tried to steal the ball. Chen Ying-Chun of Chinese Taipei sank both of his free-throws which gave his team a lead 76-74.
Coach Tab Baldwin immediately called a time-out to regroup his team.
Thirdy Ravena was tasked to inbound the ball and found Matt Nieto wide open behind the three-point territory. Without hesitation, Nieto released his long-bomb shot and it went directly to the bottom of the new, Philippines-Ateneo took the lead, 77-76.
Without a timeout left, Chinese Taipei inbounded the ball from the back-court which landed out-of-bounds. The ball posession went back to the Blue Eagles and then the final buzzer has sounded.
Nieto was the scoring leader for Ateneo with his 13 points along with his two assists. His teammate William Navarro continue his good performance after their game against team Lithuania. Navarro had 11 points and 9 rebounds coming-off the bench.
The next game for the team Philippines is on Sunday at 3:00 PM against team Iran. If the Blue Eagles secure a victory, they’ll finish third in this 2018 William Jones Cup tournament.
