The Gilas Pilipinas is looking to sweep all of its remaining games in the ongoing 2017 William Jones Cup. Today, they’ll be playing against the still win-less team India.

Despite of the loss against the tall and well disciplined team Lithuania, coach Chot Reyes still proud of his boys considering that their opponent consists of veteran players and even some of them played as imports in another Europe based basketball league.

“We’re proud of our guys. We played a high-quality European team and we saw some of these guys play as imports in the French league and other European leagues and in my mind, this is the best team in this Jones Cup,” said Reyes.

“We battled and we battled, except for a bad stretch in the second quarter. So I’m very happy with our effort, and I felt with a little more breaks, we could’ve made this closer.”

Gilas played well in the opening quarter where RR Pogoy started the run with his three-pointers. To add on the fireworks set by the Filipino, Mike Myers also converted an ally-oop dunk.

In that stretch it seems Gilas is in a different dimension as most of their shots were converted to points and ended the first period leading with five markers (22-17).

Then the Lithuanians started their long-bombs attack in the second period where they converted 7-of-11. Gilas opponent took over the driver seat and all of the remaining quarters it’s all Lithuania.

Five Gilas players scored in double figures but it’s not enough to topple the hot shooting Lithuanian squad.

“Ganito pala ang pakiramdam kapag kalaban ang Golden State (Warriors),” said Gilas team manager Butch Antonio.
