Gilas Pilipinas basketball action is back and this time around they’ll play at the FIBA 2021 Asia Cup Qualifiers. For their first assignment, they’ll face the Indonesian squad.

The last time these two squads went head-to-head was during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which was held here in the country.

The two squads collided in the semi-finals round of that said last year’s basketball competition and it was the Gilas Pilipinas that went supreme with a demolishing victory.

However, the latest assembled lineup for team Philippines is almost completely different than the roster they deployed in the 30th SEA Games.

According to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) the latest edition of Gilas roster is a combination of youth, experience, and familiarity.

“It’s a challenge for each and everyone of us. We’re a new team, everybody wants to prove something so we’re going to play as hard as we can and not let up on anything,” said Gilas team captain Kiefer Ravena.

“Ang mindset namin is to play the best way possible. That’s the only we way we can show respect to our opponents – to play to our level – so we have to push one another to be the best. You know people in the Philippines are looking up to us and we got 120 million watching us. They don’t wanna see us lose, just like us, ayaw namin matalo,” said Ravena.
