The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Team Italy at 7:30 P.M. on August 31, 2019 live from the Foshan International Sports and Cultural Center, Foshan, China.

Our beloved Gilas squad will take their first assignment versus the Italian team.

Both coaches of the opposing teams have agreed that their initial match in the 2019 FIBA World Cup is the most crucial.

For any team to advance to the next round they needed at least to win twice in the Group stage. That’s why at the very beginning of their campaign they should be already in their championship form in order to keep their contention alive.

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao has put more attention in their game against the Italian squad.

“We have tunnel vision on Italy because we feel that’s going to be our most important game,” said Guiao. “All our resources with our scouting, time have been focused on that.”

For Italian squad head coach Romeo Sacchetti, he mentioned that their first outing will be tough and very important.

“The first game is the most important game for us,” Sacchetti told reporters.

“We know we are in a [group] with [the] Philippines, Angola, and the great Serbia. But the first game against [the] Philippines is the most difficult for us.” said Sacchetti.

Well, there’s good news and bad news for the Gilas squad. In Italy’s FIBA preparation a four-team Acropolis International Basketball Tournament they went zero wins.

It’s apparent that the squad led by Danilo Gallinari and Marco Belinelli still working on their team chemistry which Gilas can take advantage of.

Yet, that will also be a wake-up signal for the Italian squad that they need to put more work to be a better version of themselves as they compete in China.
