The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Malaysia National Basketball Team at 7:00 P.M. on May 14, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Philippines Men’s Basketball Team is on its way for taking a three-game winning streak however, team Malaysia will be there and will attempt to slow down the host nation when 2017 SEABA Championships resumes today.
After registering a massive lead against Myanmar in the opening night, many have said that Gilas Pilipinas is overkilling its opponent considering the players they have assembled for this year’s SEABA tournament.
Team Philippines are only making sure that our group will win this tournament as this will be our ticket going to the FIBA Asia.
This is only the best time for the coaching staff to experiment different combinations and make the camaraderie between players stronger.
“We’re not running much offense but we tried different combinations, even playing without a point guard. This game afforded us that opportunity,” said Reyes.
For the second straight game, coach Chot Reyes started Andray Blatche and June Mar Fajardo which resulted to a single digit first quarter score for the opposing team.
Myanmar started its quarter with 7 while team Singapore got only 9. It’s like Gilas is saying “first impressions lasts” and indeed it’s working.
Both of their two assignments unable to regain momentum after the opening quarter and looks like they were got intimidated to play in the post because of the presence of Gilas big-men.
Team Malaysia gave a scare to a much tougher group, the team Thailand in its first game but weren’t able to secure a win. They struggled in the third quarter where they only produced 8 points.
Wei Hong Choo is currently Malaysia’s consistent player in their past two games. He is now averaging 10.5 points per outing.
In order for them to give a good fight against Gilas, Liaw and Ting needs to contribute as they’re the other players who have the potential to deliver double-digit scoring output.
Also prior to the Gilas vs Malaysia match is the Thailand vs Indonesia scheduled at 3:00 P.M. followed by Myanmar and Vietnam at 5:00 P.M.
