The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Myanmar National Basketball Team at 7:00 P.M. on May 12, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The quest for the Philippines basketball glory will officially start today and will try to continue their dominance in SEABA tourney up against the younger basketball lineup from Myanmar for their opening match.
Gilas Pilipinas will be led by the naturalized player Andray Blatche along with the best players in the PBA.
June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Raymond Almazan, Troy Rosario, Calvin Abueva, Allein Maliksi, Matthew Wright, Jayson Castro, Terrence Romeo, RR Pogoy and Jio Jalalon will compose the star-studded squad of coach Chot Reyes.
First time participant for SEABA, Myanmar is somewhat a mystery for most basketball fans and pundits.
What hoops fanatics knows at the moment is that their tallest player is 6’6″ backed up by two 6’4″ players. Their players are all under 23 years of age and being coached by a foreigner.
Many have said that this initial game for the Philippines national basketball team will be like a giveaway but scouting reports of Gilas coaches tells different and that’s the reason they have assembled a Pinoy Dream Team.
“To make sure that we have the best chance to win the championship, coach Jong (Uichico), coach Jimmy (Alapag) and coach Josh (Reyes) scouted the opposition. And based on their scouting, we put together the team that would give us the best chance to win the championship,” Reyes added.
Also prior to Gilas vs Myanmar game is the Indonesia versus Singapore at 3:00 P.M. followed by Malaysia versus Thailand at 5:00 P.M.
