The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the team Qatar at 7:30 P.M. on September 17, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Philippines.
Gilas Pilipinas is back again in action after suffering another loss when they have visited team Iran in their home floor last Thursday.
Actually this is now the second straight defeat for team Pilipinas and their game against the Qatari squad this evening is now like a do-or-die game to keep their chances on winning a ticket to China next year for the FIBA World Cup.
Coach Yeng Guiao and his staff is fully aware of the situation that’s why they have tweaked the current lineup of the national team.
Despite of logging 30 points and 12 rebounds against Iran and the only Gilas to reach in double-digit points in scoring, Christian Standhardinger still got replaced by Stanley Pringle as the team’s naturalized player.
“Coach Yeng emphasized how important the Qatar game is for us. We are practically treating it like a do-or-die game,” said Ryan Gregorio who is serving as the team’s chief scout.
Likewise, Matthew Wright and Japeth Aguilar are both set to return on duty and will be replacing Raymond Almazan and Allein Maliksi.
With Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter looks having difficulty adjusting to an international game, the service of Wright is needed to provide more options to score from outside.
Although team Qatar is at the bottom of the standings in Group F at 2-5, still the Philippines’ national team should continue to display relentless basketball game as Qatar has activated one of their top guys.
Tanguy Ngombo is now in the Qatari lineup who is a 2011 second round 57th pick in the NBA. Ngombo is the leading scorer in their previous game versus the Australian Boomers.
Ngombo registered 14 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort.
