The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Thailand National Basketball Team at 7:00 P.M. on May 16, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After taking a one day rest yesterday, the Gilas Pilipinas will be back in the Araneta Coliseum and will attempt to continue its winning streak in the ongoing 2017 SEABA Championships.
The 7:00 P.M. game is very important for the Thailand national basketball team in order for them to get back to contention.
Coach Tim Lewis and his players are expected to go physical and unleash their A-game.
Also in an earlier article posted in FIBA website, coach Lewis believes that any team can be beaten and that includes Gilas.
“On paper, the Philippines is definitely the strongest team, but on any given day, any team can be beaten,” said Tim Lewis.
However, Gilas coaching staff were not resting yesterday and still in working mode as they scouted Thailand’s game against Myanmar.
“We’ve taken a look at them. We’ve got all the feedbacks and we’ll use these to get ready for them,” said Gilas coach Chot Reyes. “We’ll concentrate on this game before thinking about the last two games.”
Calvin Abueva is currently the leading scorer for the Philippines national basketball team with his 15.7 per outing while Jio Jalalon leads in assists category with his 6.0 per game.
“There’s still a lot that we need to do that we’re not doing yet. But again this team is a work in progress. We know in time, we’ll be able to put things together,” said Reyes.
Also prior to the Gilas vs Thailand match is the Myanmar vs Singapore scheduled at 3:00 P.M. followed by Malaysia and Vietnam at 5:00 P.M.
