
The Philippines’ Gilas Pilipinas is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the team Thailand at 9:30 P.M. on August 20, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Gilas Pilipinas will start its new basketball campaign and this time around it will be in the Southeast Asia territory. The basketball area where Filipinos considered as the most formidable foe.
The last time that Philippines and Thailand went against each other inside a basketball court was during the 2017 SEABA Championship which was held in Manila, Philippines. The host team won the game in a blowout, 108-53.
Gilas sent its team A roster in that said tourney led by their naturalized player Andray Blatche. Philippines wanted to make sure that they’ll end as the best team of the tournament in order to secure the ticket going to the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.
In 2017 SEA Games held in Malaysia, Gilas brought its cadets as part of its development program. Four players not even entered yet in the PBA will be seen in action. They are Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, Kobe Paras and Christian Standhardinger.
Standhardinger is currently the most busiest Gilas player in the squad. He was ballin’ since the 2017 William Jones Cup and also in the still ongoing 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Thailand basketball landscape has evolved through the years, they also put a hard effort to improve and increase their basketball level to higher heights.
In this tournament, they tapped the services of Tyler Lamb and made him as their naturalized player.
Lamb helped the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions to win a championship in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL). He was also named as the Heritage Import MVP ABL 2016-17.
With Lamb in the Thailand lineup, the team now have a legitimate scorer which also made them one of the favorites to be a podium finisher.
