PVL 2021: Chery Tiggo Crossovers Sweeps Debuting Cignal HD Spikers

Chery Tiggo Crossovers swept Cignal HD Spikers on Monday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, to take the lead in the 2021 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference standings.

Chery Tiggo improved to 2-0 with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-19 victory over Cignal.

With a burst of spike points in the opening two sets, the Crossovers comfortably handled the HD Spikers.

In the third set, Cignal sought to reduce the gap on Chery Tiggo, trailed 7-9 following the first technical timeout. However, the Crossovers took a comfortable lead with to a 15-1 scoring run started by Arianne Layug and Jaja Santiago.

Layug and Santiago both scored 15 points to lead Chery Tiggo to their second consecutive victory, with the same stat line of 11 attacks, three aces, and a block to defeat Cignal in one hour and 13 minutes.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat scored seven points in two sets, while Mylene Paat and Rachel Austero each scored five.

As head coach Aaron Velez rotated his bench players, setter Jasmine Nabor only played in the opening two frames yet made 12 great sets.

Janine Marciano was Cignal’s lone bright light, scoring 12 points on 10 attacks and serving a pair of aces as the HD Spikers got off to a bad start in the PVL Open Conference for 2021. With only six markers in her PVL homecoming, Rachel Anne Daquis struggled offensively.
