Choco Mucho defeated Petro Gazz in four sets, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, on Friday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center, to keep their hopes alive for the second seed in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
Choco Mucho gained much-needed cushion in the fourth set as Regine Arocha and Deanna Wong scored successively for a 23-30 lead.
Ivy Perez, Jessey De Leon, and Remy Palma, though, fired three consecutive shots to tie the game at 23.
De Leon’s service error placed the Flying Titans on match point, while Perez’s error concluded the match at 25-23.
Maddie Madayag had 14 points and six blocks in the win, while Ponggay Gaston also had 14.
Kat Tolentino finished with 13 points and 20 outstanding digs. Arocha had 13 points, while Bea De Leon had 10. Arocha had her finest game so far but battled cramping near the end.
Deanna Wong concluded with 26 excellent sets and nine points, while Denden Lazaro-Revilla had 21 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions.
After trading sets in the first and second, the Flying Titans rallied in the third set before pulling off a fourth-set comeback to win the match.
Grethcel Soltones and Ria Meneses led the Angels with 14 points each, with the former recording 37 excellent receptions.
The Flying Titans improved their record to 7-1, while the 6-3 Angels were relegated to fourth place.
In the semi-finals, the fourth-placed Petro Gazz will face the league-leading Creamline.
Choco Mucho will face Chery Tiggo Crossovers for the second seed tomorrow, Saturday at 4:00 PM.
