The Choco Mucho Flying Titans hung on in a tight third set before dominating the fourth to defeat the PLDT Power Hitters in four sets, 28-26, 10-25, 27-25, 25-11, to start their PVL Open Conference season on a strong note Wednesday.
Following a dismal second-set performance, the Flying Titans rebounded to win the third set, 27-25, thanks to Kat Tolentino’s heroics and a spate of errors by the Power Hitters.
Choco Mucho immediately regained control of the game in the following set, 6-15, after Ponggay Gaston’s spike off a combination play.
They never trailed in the fourth set as Bea de Leon dominated the front court, scoring many points and blocking a shot for an 18-7 lead.
After Tolentino and De Leon’s attacks, the margin grew to 15 points, 22-7. With a down-the-line spike, Kim Gequillana ended the match.
De Leon led the Flying Titans in scoring with 18 points, including 15 attacks.
Meanwhile, the PLDT Power Hitters lost for the third time in a row at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, where the conference was held. The Roger Gorayeb-led PLDT in its first two matches failed to capture at least one set against Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors and league-leading Chery Tiggo.
