The Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters demolished the Kia Picanto with the final score 125-102.
Coach Louie Alas has finally got his first win as a Phoenix bench tactician after leaving the Alaska Aces.
Alas is one of the bright minds in the PBA when it comes to half-court press proved once again that defense can lead to victories.
Rookie Jason Perkins scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists enough to name him as the Bida Player of the Game. Justin Chua seems found home with Phoenix as he chipped in 15 points while Matthew Wright added his own version of 15 points.
Phoenix led as much as 22 points during the first half but the Picanto stormed back in the third quarter and closed the gap to just seven points, 55-48.
However, the Fuel Masters immediately diffused the Kia Picanto as Phoenix took over the momentum.
Preparation and respecting their opponent is probably the main key on landing Phoenix first win this 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup.
“Kia is no over kasi based on their last game against NLEX sabi ko it will not be easy,” said Alas. “Against Kia we shouldn’t go to game and expect na manalo,” instructed by Alas to his players.
Actually the run of Kia started at the end of the second quarter when Eric Camson found his shooting range from beyond the three-point territory.
Rashawn McCarthy led all scorers with his 22 points while Philip Paniamogan added 15 points.
