The stage is now set and the Lakan Cup Finals are now ready to go full steam ahead as the rightful owners of the championship slots are now determined.

The Knights are coming from a mammoth victory against the Makati Super Crunch last March 10 in their North Division decider game. Though Makati fielded only five players but the boys from San Juan still give their opponent high respect by playing professional basketball. Led by Mike Ayonayon and John Wilson, San Juan showcased their preparation in the resumption of MPBL games by executing their playbook properly.

For the Tigers, on the other hand, they were declared as the winner of the South Division Finals after four more players of the Basilan Steels found positive of COVID-19. According to league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes, there are four players from Basilan who got infected with the new coronavirus.

Last week, Davao and Basilan were scheduled to play their decider game along with the San Juan vs Makati but it got suspended for a similar reason.

This is the second time that the Knights and the Tigers will meet in the biggest stage of MPBL. The last time they met for a championship battle was during the 2018-19 MPBL Datu Cup season where San Juan outlasted Davao Occ. in Game 5. Mike Ayonayon was named as the Finals MVP during that Knights’ run to take home the championship trophy.
