The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Columbian Dyip at 4:30 P.M. on June 30, 2019 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Both teams are currently in a losing skid. The Beermen wanted to end their two-game slump while the Dyip are avoiding a four consecutive losses when the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup resumes this afternoon at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Looking on paper, the Beermen are poised to be the favorite team in today’s curtain raiser match.
Yet, the troops of coach Leo Austria need to remember what happened in their last conference’s opener game against Columbian.
They got surprised the young and talented squad led by their prized rookie CJ Perez. After that game, the Dyip were given a tag name as the “PBA Giant Slayer”.
“Kaya nga I’ve been telling the boys that we cannot afford to let our guard down against Columbian dahil baka ma-surprise na naman kami,” said Austria.
For Columbian squad on the other hand, they’re currently holding on a 1-6 slate and only have four games left in their schedule.
Granting they sweep their remaining matches they’ll end up on a 5-6 slate. That could still be enough or force a do-or-die game for a playoffs berth.
“Our chances of making it (to the playoffs) are slim to none, but we would just like to compete in our last games,” said Columbian coach Johnedel Cardel.
“Who knows? Baka in the process meron kaming matangay na iba d’yan.”
