Both the Hotshots and the Beermen are back in the Finals. SMB wanted the same result as last year’s while Magnolia wanted make its revenge when the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup starts tonight at the Big Dome.

San Miguel players Terrence Romeo and Christian Standhardinger will be playing their first All-Filipino Cup finals for the first time in their respective careers in the pro-league.

Romeo joined the Beermen before the season starts while Standhardinger wore the SMB uniform midway of the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup.

Yet, these two additions really doesn’t translate to more success to coach Leo Austria. Even in this first conference elimination round, the Beermen finished fifth.

Good thing in the Finals, all of those stats can be put aside as the league has already determined its best two squads.

“Pagdating sa championship, walang malakas, walang mahina. Parehas na yan at depende na iyan kung sino makaka-impose ng will,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

For Magnolia on the other hand, they’re once again in a familiar situation where they will enter the next round and their opponent has a much fresh legs.

The Hotshots have survived an intense battle against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the semis where they stretched their head-to-head battle up to Game 7.

“Mas mahaba ang naging pahinga nila, mas fresh sila, pero okay lang sa amin ang condition namin, ang importante we’re contending for the crown,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.

Last year SMB won the title by beating Magnolia 4-1. In their lone encounter in the 2019 Philippine Cup elimination round, the Beermen went victorious, 113-92.
