The Beermen are eyeing to register their three straight victories and also their fourth win in the elimination round while the Bolts hopes the same result after their highly anticipated collision inside the bubble in Angeles University Foundation gym this evening.
Hi-low game with June Mar Fajardo or taking clutch three-pointers or even a super-sub during the import-laden conference are the roles embraced by Arwind Santos to help the San Miguel Beermen became one of the most formidable teams in today’s PBA. Yet, when a new role was presented, the former Most Valuable Player is always ready to embrace to keep their team in the race for the All-Filipino crown.
Santos is currently averaging 18.5 points and 12 rebounds to lead San Miguel in their offense along with the help of their ever-reliable veterans.
“I’m so happy because of the veterans,” said Austria. “They’ve been stepping up in a really big way, but we need to keep consistent performances para makuha namin ang immediate target namin, which is to make the next round.”
Santos acknowledges their poor performance at the start of the league restart. Team SMB absorbed back-to-back losses in the bubble where many fans questioned if they’re still capable to reach the Finals.
“Dahil one round lang (eliminations), so importante talaga ‘yung bawa’t laro, “ said Santos. “So natalo kami first two games namin dito, sobrang sama ng laro namin. Ngayon kailangan makabawi na kami.”
For Meralco’s camp, on the other hand, they too have a player that carries their banner and led their offensive attack. That man is no other than Chris Newsome who is still fresh from winning the Player of the Week. Newsome was awesome last week where he helped the Bolts trumped the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok and the NLEX Road Warriors. The former rookie of the year logged 20.5 points and six assists during that stretch.
Meralco head coach Norman Black expects that their tonight duel won’t be easy now that the competition is crossing its midway.
“It’s a mid-conference game that’s very important for both teams. A win keeps you in the top half of the standings,” said Black.
