The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 7:00 P.M. on October 12, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Beermen are itching to end their three-game losing slide while the red hot Fuel Masters are aiming for their back-to-back victories and solidify their position as one of the top four teams this 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Without a doubt, Phoenix is one of the serious contender this conference. After Calvin Abueva joined coach Louie Alas squad prior to the start of third conference, the Fuel Masters is now a different ball-club.
Another reason of Phoenix’s success is the explosive performance of their import Eugene Phelps. The man who is also known as “El Destructor” tortured the NLEX Road Warriors last Wednesday after he dropped 51 points.
Phelps admits that he gets his motivation on his desire of winning the Best Import award.
“Honestly, I’m trying to win import of the year (Best Import of the Conference). I understand that to get that, you’ve got to at least get to the semi-finals. So that’s the goal – Top Four at least,” Phelps said.
Seeing the Beermen lost a game three in a row is something unusual. Indeed, without their four-time MVP June Mar Fajardo SMB having hard time piling up victories.
Although coach Leo Austria still have his prized Fil-German rookie in Christian Standhardinger but the presence of the “Kraken” inside the post is a big difference.
For Eugene Phelps, without their 6’10 big-man is no longer formidable and just a mere ordinary team.
“But honestly without June Mar, they’re a regular team. I mean, we just gotta play our game and I think we’ll be fine,” said Phelps.
