The Beermen and the Elasto Painters will start their intense battle in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup semi-finals round tonight.
Rain or Shine needed two dramatic finish for them to grab the ticket going to the tournament’s Final Four.
It seems that coach Caloy Garcia will try to do the same strategy to give his team a better chance to take the momentum setter Game 1.
“San Miguel is a champion team, probably masaya sila na kami ang nakalaban (sa semis) kasi mas maliit kami sa Blackwater,” Garcia said.
“But like is said, we’re going to figure out things on how to at least keep the game close until the end.”
ROS mentor is hoping that three of his key players: Ed Daquioag, James Yap and Maverick Ahanmisi will all be available in their best-of-five series.
For SMB on the other hand, they were able to beat the odds after they eliminated the NorthPort Batang Pier which carries a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
Yet, the victory cost them to lose one of their prime gunners. Marcio Lassiter suffered 2 MCL sprain on his left knee and will be sidelined at least six weeks.
Despite his absence, coach Leo Austria had an ample amount of substitute he can pull from his bench to take care of their long-range offense.
ROS coach Garcia expects the likes of Ronald Tubid or Von Pessumal will take over the slack.
“Kahit wala naman si Lassiter they have too many weapons in that team. Yung mga hindi pa nagagamit doon, sila (Ronald) Tubid, (Von) Pessumal has been stepping up this conference.”
“And we know going to the semis, iba na ang laro nila (Chris) Ross, nila (Alex) Cabagnot. They’re gonna lose a great shooter but they have players who can fill up that spot.”
