After two years, the Beermen and the KaTropa are back once again in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup biggest stage but this time around they have different imports that will boost their chances to win the Finals trophy.
In their 2017 version, San Miguel had Chris Rhodes while the Talk ‘N Text had Joshua Smith.
Eventually, Rhodes became the winner of the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best Import Award and helped San Miguel win the championship trophy in Game 6.
Rhodes returned this year in the helm of San Miguel but his squad struggled to pile victories. His stats are not that bad but if a certain squad isn’t winning usually imports got replaced. That’s exactly what happened to him before the tournament entered its playoffs round.
Smith, on the other hand, dealt a foot injury that hampered his low post domination. He was given limited minutes which their opponent took advantage of.
Yet, this year, they have the prolific Terrence Jones who helped the KaTropa finished first in the elimination round.
Jones who is a draft pick first-rounder will battle another NBA veteran and like himself selected in the first round of the NBA draft.
It seems that the Beermen and the KaTropa are giving a face-lift to PBA by hiring these high profile imports at the peak of their career.
