The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head semi-finals Game 1 against the Alaska Aces at 6:40 P.M. on July 14, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.

From eight teams now reduced to only four as the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup enters its next round. Both the Aces and the Beermen will commence the semi-finals when PBA resumes in Pasay this evening.

The Aces have easily dispatched the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok during their quarterfinals round. Since they own a twice-to-beat advantage they made sure that they will only need one victory to move ahead to Magic FOUR.

Vic Manuel continued his domination inside the paint especially on offense as his 20+ points performance streak is still on.

For the Beermen, they have swept their best-of-three quarterfinals series against the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters. June Mar Fajardo and their import Renaldo Balkman are both consistent on those two matches.

If Marcio Lassiter is the local support went on fire by dropping 26 points in Game 1, in Game 2 it was the “Crunchman” Alex Cabagnot who catches the flame as his shots torched the nets of Smart Araneta Coliseum with his 21 points that goes along with six rebounds and six assists.

That player combination is most likely one of the concerns of Alaska coach Alex Compton going to their Game 1 match with the Beermen.

“SMB has been the best team in the PBA the past four years. That hasn’t changed this conference. In fact, they added a legit NBA veteran to their team and the number one draft pick,” said Aces coach Alex Compton.

San Miguel is the biggest barricade for the Aces for the past four-confrences which dates back in the 2015 PBA Philippine Cup.

One painful memory for the Aces and its fans was the 3-0 advantage they had. Alaska only needed on more win to bag the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup, however, the Beermen didn’t gave up and took one game at a time and eventually did the impossible comeback.

SMB fanatics called it as the “Beer-acle” run which also marked as the start of the San Miguel domination in the Philippine Cup this past three years.

Beermen coach Leo Austria is aware that Alaska is itching to avenge their previous losses and probably the needed adjustments are now being made.

“Kaya dapat namin paghandaan ng husto sila dahil siguradong gustong-gusto nilang makabawi,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.

The last time these two teams met was in Dumaguete where the Aces stole the game from the Beermen after Vic Manuel went in as time expires in the fourth quarter.
