The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a best-of-five semi-finals Game 3 against the Alaska Aces at 7:00 P.M. on July 20, 2018 live from the Ynares Center-Antipolo.
The Beermen needed only one victory to gain their ticket back to the biggest stage of the PBA while the Aces are looking to log a victory and extend their 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.
Due to the heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Henry” in the Philippines particularly in Metro Manila, one the semis schedule of the PBA was rescheduled.
The gave both the Alaska and San Miguel an extra day-off as they prepare for their Game 3 duel which was set in Antipolo.
For SMB coach Leo Austria, it seems that the break they got is like a double-edge knife which brings an advantage and disadvantage to his squad.
“Admittedly, there’s an advantage but also disadvantage on the postponement of the Wednesday game. An advantage for us is getting our players ready for another game with a lot of running. That’s their game; they press a lot,” said Austria.
Likewise, that one-day rest gave an opportunity to heal whatever injury did Diamon Simpson got at the later stages of the fourth quarter. The request of Simpson to be subbed didn’t passed from the eyes of Austria.
“They’re able to recharge and recuperate. I think (Diamon) Simpson got hurt in Game Two because he asked to be subbed at end game then they applied ice on his foot. I’m sure he’s recovered from that now,” Austria also said.
For the reigning MVP and the top favorite to win the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference, June Mar Fajardo wanted to end the series tonight.
“We’ll try to finish it in three straight games. But for sure, it won’t be easy. There’s no easy game in playoffs,” said Fajardo.
It’s very rare for Fajardo to let go his emotions in any basketball game but in their Game 2 match, “the Kraken” was seen slamming the ball which ended to a technical foul. Most probably that’s because of the hard defense of the Aces thrown towards him to limit his productions.
Although down in the series and on the verge to get swept, coach Alex Compton and his Aces now have the opportunity to duplicate the feat done by San Miguel to them in 2015 Philippine Cup. SMB was then down at 0-3 in the All-Filipino Finals but made a comeback and win the championship trophy.
