The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Blackwater Elite at 4:30 P.M. on February 9, 2018 live from the Cuneta Astrodome.
After a promising start this All-Filipino conference, the Elite suddenly got stuck in their two victories and staring to a four-game losing skid while the Beermen quickly back in their winning ways after got beaten by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
Blackwater is in a dire situation when they step back in the basketball floor of the Cuneta Astrodome. Another defeat would mean another early exit for them and all they can do is to prepare for the next conference.
However, Coach Leo Isaac won’t surrender their flag easily and promises a win against the defending champion.
“We will come to the game against SMB tomorrow prepared and get a win to end our downslide,” said Issac.
With four games remaining in their schedule this elimination round, San Miguel head coach Leo Austria is eyeing to finish at least in the top two of the standings. This will secure them a twice-to-beat advantage during the Quarterfinals round.
“Kapag nanalo kami sa Blackwater and then Alaska (next Saturday in Batangas City) then malamang na nasa top two na kami,” said Austria.
Although their curtain-raiser opponent is currently in a losing streak, the veteran coach doesn’t discount Blackwater capability to set an upset.
“Very important para sa amin ang game na ito that’s why ang sabi ko nga sa team ko we have to be on our toes kasi nga kayang-kaya ng Blackwater to spring any surprise against us,” said Austria.
Alex Cabagnot and Gabby Espinas will still unavailable in SMB’s today’s game as both players still nursing their respective injuries. Coach Austria will utilize either Chico Lanete or Brian Heruela to take over the slack left by Cabagnot.
Both Heruela and Lanete were already named as Bida Player of the Game during the Beermen’s stretch without the presence of the “the Crunchman”.
