The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the GlobalPort Batang Pier at 7:00 P.M. on January 24, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The defending champion Beermen is currently on a roll and on its way for its five-game winning streak but Batang Pier will also ride to its own winning momentum and will attempt to put blemish to the win-loss card of San Miguel.
Without their leading scorer Terrence Romeo, the Batang Pier was able to find a solution to fill the slack. Of course, one of the obvious answer is Stanley Pringle then there’s Sean Anthony.
GlobalPort was able to take care its last two assignments. Against Rain or Shine they’ve won by a margin of eight points and demolished the Blackwater Elite with their run-and-gun type of game with 101-76 final score.
However, those two teams are currently below 50% winning percentage and playing against the defending champion needs more effort and GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio is aware of the situation.
“We’ll give our best,” said Jarencio ahead of their tough test versus the Beermen at 7 p.m.
San Miguel is the only undefeated team this 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup but their last outing against the NLEX Road Warriors was full of drama and physicality.
Von Pessumal got a technical foul after pushing Kiefer Ravena from behind as the two fighting for position to grab a rebound. Then later Chris Ross was seen in two separate dramatic occassions against Alex Mallari and coach Yeng Guiao. With all that actions, still the Beermen is the triumphant squad after the last buzzer was heard.
June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos had a combined 51 points and 29 rebounds in their last outing. While SMB guards (Ross, Cabagnot and Lassiter) added 42 points.
