The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the NLEX Road Warriors at 5:00 P.M. on June 23, 2018 live from the Calasiao Sports Complex, Pangasinan.
The Beermen are looking for a back-to-back victories in Pangasinan as they solidify their chances on making it to the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals round while the Road Warriors will take the part as a spoiler as they prepare themselves for the next conference.
Just few days ago, San Miguel has shipped Gabby Espinas along with their 2020 second round draft pick to GlobalPort Batang Pier in exchange for Kelly Nabong.
Nabong is one of the favorite players to win this year’s Most Improved Player award due to his stellar performance as he blend to the system of Batang Pier’s coach Pido Jarencio.
Espinas and Nabong have the similar weapon they can bring which coach Leo Austria can utilize and that is they can shoot beyond the three-point line and stretch the floor. Additionally, the former second round pick in the 2012 PBA draft can also bring energy that will ignite the Beermen faithfuls.
“The way I see it, Kelly is a fierce competitor who doesn’t like to be mediocre but, nevertheless, has built a not-so-good reputation in the PBA,” SMB’s team manager Gee Abanilla said. “However, we cannot discount the fact that he has talent and could fulfill a role for our team.”
For NLEX on the other hand, apart from losing Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas from the Road Warriors lineup another dependable player will be sidelined.
Pure long range shooter Larry Fonacier will be out in today’s game after suffering an injury during their Barangay Ginebra San Miguel clash. Fonacier suffered a fractured ribcage after colliding with Jervy Cruz.
Coach Yeng Guiao will continue to experiment his local players as he figure out the right combination that can deliver victory.
