
The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 7:00 P.M. on May 30, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen hunt of their first elusive win this 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup resume this evening while the Fuel Masters are looking to make back-to-back victories not only to improve their current spot in the standings but also against SMB franchise.
PBA needed a two extra period before the league officially started the 2018 PBA All-Star Weekend. Phoenix forced the game into double overtime when they clashed with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel last May 20, 2018.
Double-double machine Eugene Phelps was called by Phoenix after James White suffered an injury. The new-look Phelps led the Fuel Masters with 25 points and 14 rebounds who also suffered cramps during the extended period.
“It’s a big win and we needed it badly,” said Phoenix coach Louie Alas.
“The whole week prinaktis namin kung ano naging outcome ng game. Nung last game kasi, breakdown agad kami right at the start,” Alas also said. “I told them kung hindi tayo magpapakita ng toughness, especially mentally, walang mangyayari. I guess nagbunga.”
Long range specialist Matthew Wright found his shooting strokes also during the double overtime and later named as the Bida Player of the Game.
Fuel Masters seems to have shown mastery against the teams owned by San Miguel franchise, they have already defeated Magnolia and Ginebra. If they end up winning this evening then it’s a sweep for them.
The Beermen went wire-to-wire versus the Alaska Aces in their last outing in Dumaguete City. San Miguel had the chance on sending the game into overtime and take another winning chances but Vic Manuel converted a shot as time expired in the fourth quarter.
Renaldo Balkman made his first appearance in the PBA after got banned by the league failed to deliver a win. In same way, 2017 PBA Rookie Draft first overall pick Christian Standhardinger still looking for his victory as a Beermen and a professional Filipino basketball player.
