The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals Game 6 against the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters at 6:30 P.M. on July 2, 2017 in Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen is just a win away to take home the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup trophy but KaTropa is aiming to extend the series and force it to Game 7.
During the first half of Game 5 specifically in the last stretch of the second quarter, TNT boys went on fire.
Ranidel de Ocampo shoots 7-of-8 from the field and scored 19 points, Kris Rosales went unconscious as he made basket after basket. Most of Rosales damage came from the rainbow territory.
Jayson Castro added an icing to the Talk ‘N Text run as he beats the buzzer at the end of the first half.
KaTropa took advantage of the scrambled defense displayed by the Beermen. It was also seen several times that coach Leo Austria got upset of his team as they forgot their player assignment.
Talk ‘N Text was able to build a pile of points as they outscored the Beermen in the first half 35-17 which gave them a 15-point lead going to the third quarter.
In the second half coach Leo Austria benched June Mar Fajardo and put Arwind Santos to the lineup. This was to give the Beermen a new offensive strategy to counter the big-men five of TNT.
That SMB adjustment was effective as they took off the big lead and was again in the driver seat at the end of the third quarter. Arwind Santos was the main man of San Miguel on that comeback.
Santos was also named as the Best Player of the Game after scoring 27 points, 8 rebounds and 5 monster blocks.
“This is the momentum that you want heading into a wrap-up game,” said Beermen coach Leo Austria.
