The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters at 6:45 P.M. on June 16, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Beermen are looking for a quick bounce back game and will try to climb-out from the lower four teams while the KaTropa are eyeing for a top two finish when the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup resumes in Pasay.
Talk ‘N Text displayed how good their backcourt combination during the first half of action during their game versus Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok. Coach Nash Racela started the game with Jayson Castro and Ryan Reyes then when his first combo-guard needs a rest then there’s Terrence Romeo and RR Pogoy to takeover.
That strategy worked for Talk ‘N Text in the first half as they lead as much as twelve points but in the third quarter and fourth, their opponent was able to fix their offense and took over the game.
TNT import Joshua Smith thinks that they took Magnolia lightly considering that the Hotshots are coming from a three-game losing skid.
“We got to have the same mentality no matter who we play. No matter if we’re playing Magnolia, no matter if we’re playing NLEX, no matter if we’re playing Meralco or San Miguel,” said Smith.
“We still got three games until the playoffs, but we got to go back to square one. We got to play defense and we got to fix some things,” he also said.
Even without GlobalPort Batang Pier’s import Malcolm White in the game due to technical fouls which resulted to ejection, San Miguel failed to win the game. They’re now back in one of the bottom four teams after winning three straight.
Renaldo Balkman had a 33 points and 13 rebounds performance while June Mar Fajardo got 20 points and eight rebounds but those effort got toppled by a three-point bomb of Nicko Elorde from a Stanley Pringle pass late in the fourth quarter.
“Credit to the players, especially Nico Elorde who hit that three-point shot,” noted coach Pido Jarencio. “Hindi maganda laro niya the whole game then that big 3-point shot. Grabe, game-changer.”
