Basketball never stops in the Philippines as SBP will make another campaign and this time it’s the FIBA 3X3 Under-23 World Cup in Xi’an, China.
Team Pilipinas will play against their first assignment which is the team Slovenia at 7:00 PM the it will be followed by number 1 ranked Serbia at 8:50 PM. Both games are scheduled this coming Wednesday.
The national team will be anchored by the University of the Philippines-commit Ricci Rivero and will be coached by Ronnie Magsanoc.
Then on Thursday, team Philippines will face Turkmenistan at 5:00 PM. The Turks are currently ranked number 15 in the world. At 8:40 PM they will clash against the host nation China.
Jeepy Faundo, RJ Abarrientos and Rhayyan Amsali will team team-up with Rivero for the upcoming Philippines 3X3 campaign.
To qualify for the next round, team Pilipinas needed to finish as one of the top two teams in Pool C.
“SBP is determined to increase the popularity of 3×3 in our country,” said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio.
“Aside from establishing and strongly pushing for local 3×3 tournaments, we are also just starting to actively participate in international competitions with the goal of getting the necessary experience and at the same time improve on our world ranking which is currently pegged at No. 47,” Panlilio said.
“It’s a commitment for SBP, to continuously push for a solid 3×3 program and to execute an efficient roadmap heading to the Olympics in 2020 and beyond,” Panlilio added.
