Sol Mercado’s playing contract with the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters is currently under negotiation.
Atty. Raymond Zorilla who serves as Phoenix’s team board official confirmed this report and it seems that the “Sol Train” will play as a Fuel Masters for the upcoming new PBA season.
He also stressed the reason why until now Mercado hasn’t joined his new mother-team for practice.
“Wala pa kasi siyang kontrata kaya hindi pa siya pinag-practice,” said Zorilla. “We need to negotiate muna yung bago niyang kontrata and after which, kapag nagka-sundo na, then makakapag-practice na siya.”
Mercado was dealt by NorthPort Batang Pier last month for LA Revilla and Rey Guevarra.
Though Phoenix already has loaded players in its backcourt position yet Mercado can bring more toughness, particularly on the defensive end because of his size.
Once his new contract got signed, head coach Louie Alas will have plenty of options from his lineup. Mercado will join Alex Mallari, RJ Jazul, RR Garcia and Mike Gamboa in Phoenix’s guard rotation.
