The Taal Volcano in Batangas is in “magmatic unrest” according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs has raised its earlier Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) to Alert Level 3 (magmatic unrest) in their 4:00 PM update.
Likewise, according to the said latest news bulletin released by Phivolcs, the Taal Volcano Main Crater has escalated its eruptive activity where it generates an eruption plume of 1 kilometer-high.
The said agency also gave their reason why they have raised the alert status to Alert Level 3. “This means that there is a magmatic intrusion that is likely driving the current activity.”
Phivolcs advised the residents who live in the barangay of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas to evacuate due to the possible hazards of pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami.
They also gave a reminder that the entire Volcano Island is a Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). Also, the entry into the island and to the above-mentioned barangays is prohibited.
