The GlobalPort Batang Pier is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Talk ‘N Text KaTropa Texters at 7:00 P.M. on February 14, 2018 live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The TNT KaTropa are looking to break their two-game losing skid while the Batang Pier will shoot for its fourth win to have a better chances on qualifying to the next round of the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup.
Talk ‘N Text is currently at the eight and the last spot to get a ticket moving to the Quarterfinals round. Lurking at their back are Meralco, Blackwater and GlobalPort.
In order for them to have a strong hold and even to improve their present slot in standings, KaTropa need to break their losing skid and rediscover their consistent winning ways.
“We have to find ways para makabalik sa winning column kasi two straight losses parang napakabigat na sa amin especially dikit-dikit yung standings,” said Jayson Castro. “The Blur” scored 17 points including his six steals in a losing effort against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel last Sunday.
“We need to break the losing streak. We have to find ways to win the next one. We don’t really have a choice, but to focus on the next game,” said TNT coach Nash Racela.
Despite having no Terrence Romeo in the lineup of GlobalPort, coach Pido Jarencio slowly injecting the “Never-Say-Die” attitude to his Batang Pier squad. It was evident during their game against Alaska Aces which they have forced the game into overtime.
Coach Alex Compton of the Aces whose team just turned off the six-game winning streak complemented his counterpart coach.
“Bodies were sprawling all over the floor. We took 39 free throws and we gave away 34, and there were some flagrant infractions. Coach Pido (Jarencio) got his players to play hard, and we got our players to play hard. I hope the fans appreciate our effort,” said Compton.
Also, Jeric Teng will be joining GlobalPort and will reunite with his college coach Pido Jarencio. The Jarencio-Teng basketball coach-player relationship brings many success in the collegiate tournament. The UST Growling Tigers went to a UAAP Finals twice during their era with the team.
Likewise, TNT will parade their new acquisition from Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. Talk ‘N Text have traded the rarely used Sidney Onwubere for another top gunner in Jericho Cruz.
