Two Sundays ago it was the rematch of the 2016 PBA Governor’s Cup finalists, today another early third conference treat from the PBA. The rematch of the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup between the Beermen and the KaTropa.

Of course this is minus Joshua “the Jumbotron” Smith and the second conference Best Import Charles Rhodes.

Both teams won their respective first games. Talk ‘N Text have beaten Kia Picanto while San Miguel whipped the Blackwater Elite.

It seems that their initial matches were just like a tune-up game for them as both the Elite and the Picantos are currently lurking at the bottom of the 2017 PBA Governor’s Cup standings.

San Miguel are still sharp just like how they ended their Commissioner’s Cup campaign. Players usually have the tendency to remain in the cloud 9 after winning a championship trophy but not with coach Leo Austria’s squad.

“I think this is our best start (coming off a championship). I’m proud of my players, despite the long break, yung iba extended pa, makikita mo pa rin na sharp sila,” said SMB coach Austria.

The KaTropa on the other hand seems found the right import that will fit with coach Nash Racela’s basketball system.

Mike Craig who was already in the Philippines in the past two months had a stellar PBA game debut.

Craig dropped a rare triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists versus Blackwater.

“I feel like I’m jelling pretty good. I’ve been here for over two months now, so I think that was a wise decision by both of us by bringing me here and watching their journey to the championship,” said McKines.
