Terrence Romeo Leads Gilas Against Team China

Philippines’ basketball national team, Gilas Pilipinas is currently going through a significant preparations in Europe for the long awaited Olympic Qualifiers which is scheduled in the Philippines. Gilas beat China in Europe behind the leadership of Terrence Romeo.



GlobalPort’s guard, Terrence Romeo guided his squad and eventually concluding their losing streak in Europe following their triumph against Asian powerhouse China in the Imperial City Basketball Tournament at Land Rover Arena in Bologna, Italy.

The Pinoy squad overcame the Chinese team with the final score of 72-69 to end its campaign in their European tour. The 2015 PBA Most Improved Player, Terrence Romeo topscored for Gilas Pilipinas along with his 18 points and 11 of those came in the fourth quarter which includes two key triples down the stretch.

Naturalized center as well as Gilas’ Pilipinas most dominant offensive weapon, Andray Blatche chipped in with his 14 points along with 12 rebounds on their victory against team China,which happen the same squad that beaten the nationals in the FIBA Asia Championships, the first qualifying game for 2016 Rio Olypmics.

Apart from Romeo and Blatche, Negros Island Region sensation and one of the country’s deadliest three-point shooters, Jeff Chan contributed with 10 points while many considered as the best point-guard in Asia, Jayson Castro added with nine points for the Gilas victory over the Chinese national team.

The win of Gilas Pilipinas versus China is sweeter based on the team’s management even though the Chinese team didn’t have their main players namely NBA 2016 Draft second round pick Zhou Qi and former Washington Wizards, Yi Jianlian.

While for the Gilas Pilipinas squad, the complete 12-man official roster in the Manila Qualifier for Rio Olympics were headed by Coach Tab Baldwin. Even though the 12-man roster were complete, the team was cut down to just 11 players right after Ranidel de Ocampo was ejected for altercation while in the game.

After several weeks in Europe, Philippines national squad will now fly back to Manila and continue on its preparations for the Olympic qualifier. Gilas will play against Turkey again on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena for its final exhibition game.
