Nesthy Petecio is one victory away from an olympic gold medal finish at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after a 4-1 split decision over Italian Irma Testa in the semifinals of the Women’s Featherweight division on July 30, 2021 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Petecio continued to dominate, winning four of the five judges’ scores in a close bout. Petecio received identical 28-27 scores from Tunisian judge Hichem Menchaoui, Ukrainian judge Pavlo Vasylynchuk, Mongolian judge Tsogtgerel Tserenkhand, and Australian judge Maksim Sulejmani. Manuel Vilarino, an Argentine judge, gave Testa a 29-28 victory.

On August 3, 2021, Petecio will meet the winner of the other Women’s Featherweight class semifinal match between Japanese bet Sena Irie and British Kariss Artingstall.

Irie is a 20-year-old potential young boxer who came in fifth place at the AIBA Women’s Boxing World Championships in 2019. Meanwhile, Artingstall won a bronze medal at the World Championships.

In the World Championships, Petecio defeated both Irie and Artingstall. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Irie 4-1 on points, and in the semi-finals, she defeated Artingstall 4-1 by decision.
