Video: Mount Kanlaon Is At Alert Level 1 After Ash Eruption According To Phivolcs

Identified as an active volcano located in Negros Island, Mount Kanlaon erupts at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 as verified by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

An ash eruption, that continued for around 12 minutes, happened from the volcano’s active crater Phivolcs said.

The sound of the Mt. Kanlaon eruption was heard in Barangays Ara-al and Yubo in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, as well as in Barangay Pula, Canlaon City in Negros Oriental. It created a 1.5-kilometer high ash column.

Tracks of light ashfall were noticed in Sition Guintubdan, Barangay Ara-al in La Carlota City.

Alert Level 1 status continues to be in effect over Mt. Kanlaon, said by representatives from Phivolcs , adding that the condition implies that the volcano “is at an abnormal condition and is in a period of current unrest.

Phivolcs has informed the public, local government units, and civil aviation authorities of the probable dangers brought on by the eruption.
